Description

In the early hours of June 11, 2026, a fire damaged the suzuo bell rope at Nakanotana Inari Shrine in Tatemachi, Naka Ward, Hiroshima City. The fire was reported around 3:40–3:45 a.m. Security camera video showed a man appearing to use a lighter-like object to set fire to the rope; parts of the paulownia cover and tassels were burned black. The neighborhood association managing the shrine filed a damage report. On September 2, Hiroshima Chuo Police arrested a 48-year-old unemployed man from Nishi Ward on suspicion of property damage for allegedly setting fire to the shimenawa and suzuo. No injuries were reported. The case remains under investigation.
