Meirin Shopping Street Fire

Description

On August 31, 2026, a large fire broke out at Meirin Shopping Street in Iwabuchi, Ise, Mie Prefecture, near Kintetsu Ujiyamada Station and about 600 meters east of Ise Jingu Geku. A 110 call was received around 3:15 p.m. The fire burned for about 44 hours before being declared extinguished on September 2. About 58 buildings were damaged, including five residences and 53 shops and warehouses, covering roughly 4,300 square meters. No injuries were reported. Nearby residents were temporarily ordered to evacuate. Police and fire authorities are investigating the cause; early examination pointed to the arcade entrance area near the station as a possible origin.
