Description
On January 15, 2026, a fire destroyed two buildings at Suga Shrine in Koyase, Yahatanishi Ward, Kitakyushu. The fire started in a warehouse around 10:50 a.m. and spread to the adjacent shrine office, which also served as a residence of about 250 square meters. The office was reduced to its frame. A woman living in the office evacuated safely. The fire was extinguished about three hours later. The main hall was not damaged. The shrine is said to have been established in the Eikyo era around 1429. Police and fire authorities are investigating the cause.
