On the night of January 1, 2025, a fire destroyed the main hall of Kingen-ji, a Soto Zen temple in Shimoiizaka, Fukushima City. The fire burned for about four hours before being extinguished. The head priest and others escaped safely. No injuries were reported. Police and fire authorities are investigating the cause.
