On May 21, 2025, a fire destroyed the main hall of Honsen-ji in Sakai (Maruoka), Fukui Prefecture. The fire was reported around 10:30 a.m. by a monk at the temple. The main hall was engulfed in flames within minutes and burned to the ground. The reporting monk sustained minor injuries. A firefighter was also transported for suspected heatstroke. Police and fire authorities are investigating the cause.
